TAC Statement on Ofcom PSB 3 Report

TAC Chair Iestyn Garlick today said:

“We welcome this report’s important conclusions in a number of areas. Firstly it supports the continuation of the current regulations on the terms of trade and independent production quota, which have been key to our sector becoming a world leading industry.

Secondly we note and agree with Ofcom’s conclusion that he BBC remains the cornerstone of PSB and that the next Charter is ‘critical’ to its future.

Third, we also agree with Ofcom that the decline in children’s TV is of great concern – it is an area where TAC’s members make high-quality content for S4C, CBBC and CBeebies and which for cultural and educational reasons is extremely important.

Lastly we also agree with Ofcom that commissioning in Wales has reduced overall and most of what remains is largely down to the BBC and also S4C. We welcome Ofcom’s stressing of the importance of S4C to the Welsh independent sector.”
