Welsh producers win international TV festival awards

20 April 2016

Several Wales-made productions were among the winners at the New York International Film and TV Awards yesterday, beating a range of competition from around the world.

‘Y/Gwyll / Hinterland’ (Fiction Factory) won both the Grand Award and the Gold Award for crime drama, ‘Patagonia Eric Jones ac Ioan Doyle’ (Fflic/Boom Cymru) won a Silver Medal in the sports category, and documentary ‘Dagrau o Waed: Rhyfel Corea’ (Awen Media/JTV) won a bronze medal in National/International Affairs. In addition, Green Bay Media was awarded a Finalist Certificate in the Children’s/Youth programme category for the S4C programme ‘Llond Ceg’.

TAC Chair Iestyn Garlick said: ‘This is a great example of how the ambition of the Welsh independent sector, matched with S4C’s own ambition, can produce international success. With the right funding and governance in place, S4C will be able to work with our sector to produce more such programmes for many years to come. We hope successes such as this will be strongly in the minds of Government when it comes to review S4C next year.”
